Canadian authorities have confiscated a record $40 million in cryptocurrency from the unregistered exchange TradeOgre, marking the largest such seizure in the country's history. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) dismantled the platform entirely—a first for Canadian law enforcement—following a year-long investigation sparked by a Europol tip in June 2024.

The operation eclipsed a 2023 case involving $13 million in Bitcoin tied to a darknet fentanyl ring. TradeOgre allegedly facilitated money laundering for criminal organizations, operating without proper registration or customer identification protocols. The RCMP collaborated with financial crime units and blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence to trace illicit transactions.
